I started to think about this subject more, stemming from a deep rooted need to understand the processes it involves, how they've affected my life in the past and how better to move forward with better knowledge and understanding.
Distraction has many faces, it can be a coping mechanism, learned behavior as well as a kind of addiction, in some circumstances.
It's also widely utilized by external forces, to manipulate and control.
I was listening to a video talking about consciousness and it occurred to me that you can't really fully understand the universe, without first knowing yourself. To be the observer at every step of your journey inwards, using consciousness as a guide and mentor, seems key.
It's indeed difficult to distract yourself from the material world, as so much of it screams for your attention. After all, distraction is merely a shift of focus from one "thing" to another.
So which things are ultimately good for us?
If you view life as a game of survival, it's logical that much of our time is spent surviving physically, food, shelter and whatever comforts we need in order to thrive. Additionally, our social needs also play a part, although it's debatable which roles we choose and which are chosen for us. We are of course, all unique yet we all crave similar things, in different guises and amounts.
I guess you could say that consciousness is unlimited in its array of attributes and that we are each a small part of the whole. Both able to elevate towards light or dark forces, or somewhere in between.
Our belief in God(s), as important as it is to many, is in reality a system of belief, although some would say knowledge. It is perhaps another distraction, emanating from the material world, or perhaps a deeper link with the divine consciousness but we see it through a "lens" of our own making, indeed not in it's purest form.
A simplification which has been subjected to many levels of dilution from the actual, but we are still connected as living beings. The limitation that we place upon ourselves can also be seen as a distraction, to the point that consciousness only exists in a fleeting glimpse, a feeling, like the ghost in the machine.
We exist in the material world only temporarily and with such a small trace of true existence, like we are asleep and irrelevant.
Some say that we may be living in a simulation. But is this just based on our disconnection from our selves?
Only seeing a very small part of the picture, devoid of the absolute truth. Science, no longer driven by the creative and inquisitive mind, but for personal gain, no longer has the answers. Indeed many scholars now exist on the fringes of mainstream thought, drawn to search for answers away from the distraction of modern culture and control.
It's like universal consciousness itself is aware and wants to "know itself". So naturally we all have the greatest part to play in the rebirth of its awareness. I always think of it as a process of purification, similar to the idea of living many lives, another truth that we are told is a lie, yet there it is.
Whilst we've been caught up in the distractions of modern culture and its "isms", we have ventured further away from the natural state of being, to the point of being enslaved by a system that seemingly wishes to destroy itself.
Telling us daily that we are insignificant is perhaps the biggest untruth of all. For once you leave behind the baggage of emotional connection with the past, you become re-focused into the present, and you can begin to make sense of just about everything. You begin to see the distractions that limit and enslave, and can finally find ways to reclaim your sovereignty.
Just one simple question to anyone who has an open and conscious mind. Do you find yourself being ever so slightly steered to your discoveries or the things that you contemplate?
Do you hear something said and it resonates so deeply, and so profoundly, that you follow it to try and unpack it some more? Often seemingly unrelated people walking the same paths, in parallel to each other, not leading or being led. I believe from this that a shared consciousness guides us, if we are open enough to its beckoning.
Whether a thought of your own or of a complete stranger, it's important to realize that we are all part of consciousness and much greater than the outside world would have us believe. Whilst many believe in messiahs and prophets, only first hand accounts really matter, accounts of suffering and of pain within.
We wait for someone to save us, to lead us, whilst failing to realize our own complicity in the facade. Truth is covered in lies and dogma, our reality shrouded by illusion. Once you become aware, a great silence comes over you. Your mind is no longer enslaved to complexity. You are finally free of the mindset and no longer a prisoner to it.
Time stands still, itself a release of much distraction. It becomes like the first day in school, although overwhelming at first, you look back at the "cave" you've emerged from, no longer confined by its projections, but fully aware of each step you take. Like shedding your skin, layers of doubt and untruth fall away, leaving only the real, unfiltered truths that have always been hidden, until now.
You are no longer a "thing", an object, consumer, product or resource, to be used and discarded once you expire. You no longer have a shelf life or compliance rating. You are part of something much greater, more resilient through suffering and pain. Your body is a container of something much more, your essence and its link to consciousness.
In "higher" civilizations, intellectually speaking, this is a completely unknown, unfathomable source. Unable to comprehend its usefulness, it's confined and any shred of its existence is erased. It's power is refashioned into mainstream religion, with power to control, rather than enhance, diminish rather than reveal, destroy instead of create.
The horrors of the world are seemingly all part of the same process, of darkness into light, a temporary eclipse, causing consciousness to come forth within all things. Truth should be something that resonates not something that is suppressed and self serving.
An unconscious entity, struggling to become aware of its place in the universe, instead trying to build and enslave. Our essence is not accessible through technology or even logical thinking in such a system.
As you embark on the journey into consciousness, your being is lighter and yet more real, no longer harnessed and illusory. Feelings or rather imprints of shame, inadequacy, guilt and pride all fall by the wayside, like chains in an empty prison cell, no longer holding you back from your true potential.
Unlike the perception that someone else died for our sins and that we will be saved, as long as we do what's expected. We all get to experience pain and receive first hand knowledge and awareness, through personal experience, not through others'.
Every single one of us fights the same battles, on our path toward consciousness. Many obstacles will be overcome, perhaps much later within a physical lifetime, before experiencing the next cycle of rebirth, carrying forward our essence, with less distraction and indoctrination from others and more connectedness.
Once the path ahead is clear, it's easier to remain present and bring forth your authentic, loving, feeling self. Being instead of doing, living instead of serving, learning truth through each action, instead of blind obedience.
“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
- Buddha.
